Description
Crowds gather at Murlough Bay for the memorial service for Roger Casement. It was Casement's request that he be buried at this location but following his execution for treason, the British government refused and when Casement’s remains were finally repatriated in 1965, he was buried in the Republican plot in Glasnevin Cemetery. This annual commemoration still takes place. At this commemoration, we see Eoin 'The Pope' O'Mahony. Wreaths were laid by Jim McCaughan (Casement Commemoration Committee), Sean Stinson (Antrim GAA), PJ O’Cleary (Feis na nGleann), James McShane (Conradh na Gaelige), Sean Caughey (Wolfe Tone Northern Directory), Kalish Searda (India), Richards Agiama (Nigeria), Daithi O Bruadair (National Students Council), L Arnold (UCD), D Morrissey (Trinity College Dublin). Prayers recited at the grave in Breton by Very Rev Canon Mevellec, Breton Nationalist Party.
Speakers were Sean McCarthy TD (Lord Mayor Cork), Prof Liam O Buachalla (Cathorleach Seanad Eireann), John Carroll (ITGWU), Sean Caughey (President Irish Union), Jack Bennett (Northern Directory of the Wolfe Tone Commemoration), Richards Agiama (Nigerian student in Dublin).
